About

ABOUT ME

Hi there! My name is Ali McNaught and I am a Royal Conservatory trained piano teacher and am offering introductory and intermediate lessons for all ages.

I started teaching Piano at 15, and have completed my Level 8 Royal Conservatory Practical and Rudimentary examinations. I took some time off of teaching to pursue a Communications degree from University of Calgary, and a Post Graduate Diploma in Public Relations at MacEwan University. I am currently completing a Bachelor of Education from the University of Calgary and I am excited to be using the skills that I am learning to follow my passions of teaching and music.

If you or your child are curious about lessons, or are eager to learn music theory and sight reading, I’m happy to help!

Bastien Piano Basics

Primer - Level 4

The Bastien Piano Basics method uses a gradual multi-key approach, with reading beginning in the C five-finger position. Five levels of full-colour illustrations throughout entertain and reinforce musical concepts. Each page is carefully correlated page-by-page with Theory, Performance, and Technic. The carefully graded, logical learning sequence assures steady and continual progress.

A dynamic way to introduce students to the marvelous world of music!

RCM Celebration Series
Repertoire & Etudes

Preparatory - Level 5

The Royal Conservatory of Music Certificate Program is a comprehensive system of music study and assessment from Elementary through to Advanced levels. At each level of the RCM Certificate program, students are supported with accompanying publications to help develop into well-rounded musicians.

With a focus on nurturing creativity and developing self-confidence, the integrated RCM curriculum encompasses repertoire from classical to contemporary, as well as etudes, ear tests, sight reading, technique, and theory.

RCM Celebrate Theory

Preparatory - Level 5

The Royal Conservatory of Music Celebrate Theory program teaches the building blocks of music. By integrating music theory with practical study, students develop well-rounded musicianship skills in an interactive and engaging way.

It encompasses rudiments, harmony, counterpoint, analysis, and music history, and has been carefully written to enhance the skills of aural awareness, analytical thinking, and creativity.

THE SPACE

My in-home studio is located in Silverado, Calgary, down the street from Ron Southern School. The bright and cozy studio will make you and your child feel right at home and allows for a conducive and friendly learning space. Your kids can walk over after school, you can drop off and pick up, or you can wait in our comfortable living room with books, and TV, while you are waiting for your little one to finish up.

My husband and I also have two furry music maestros, Koda and Cooper, who have never met a human they didn’t like. Our hypo-allergenic Bernedoodles are so friendly and absolutely love to make new friends! When you or your child come for lessons we will make sure they are busy playing outside unless you wish to meet them. If you have any concerns, please let me know and we will make other arrangements for them upon your arrival.
